DIY Face Paint Recipe

Add color to your life with this quick and easy face paint recipe. Face paint is great for parties, summer barbecues, and other events, but it’s also a lot of fun any old time. You don’t need a reason! Kids will be entertained for hours by painting each others’ faces. Our face paint recipe is fast, simple, and inexpensive.

Easy Face Paint Recipe

Our easy face paint recipe uses only three ingredients, and takes just seconds to mix up. The colorful secret ingredient? Tempera powder! Tempera powder is non-toxic, washable pigment that can be used to mix up paint or as an ingredient in many other activities. It is inexpensive and readily available online or at art, craft, or educational stores.

What you need to make diy face paint:

  • Baby lotion
  • Baby powder or corn starch
  • Tempera powder, various colors
  • Cups or bowls
  • Paintbrushes
  • A spoon

Optional:

  • Cotton swabs
  • Mirror
  • Paper towels or tissue

We got all our our supplies at the dollar store, except for the tempera powder, which we found online. We used a pack of disposable plastic shot glasses from the dollar store for mixing our face paint.

How to Make Easy Face Paint:

  1. Squeeze some baby lotion into a cup. We used about 1 Tablespoon per cup.
  2. Add tempera powder to the baby lotion. We used about 1/2 teaspoon per cup.
  3. Mix together until blended.
  4. Add baby powder or corn starch to thicken paint and help it dry faster. We used about 1-2 teaspoons per cup.
  5. Mix well.

Easy DIY face paint recipe

Apply paint to skin with paintbrushes, cotton swabs, cotton balls, or cosmetic sponges. Avoid eyes, mouth, and nostrils.

Allow paint to dry on skin (about 3-5 minutes).

To remove, wash with soap and water.
